Policy Innovation Systems for Clean Energy Security (PISCES) is a five -year Energy Research Programme Consortium (RPC) that aims at contributing to innovation and providing new policy-relevant knowledge in the energy sector – leading to better practice and ultimately impacts helping the poor in developing countries. The idea behind PISCES is that livelihood security for the poor is contingent upon energy, water and food security, and that Bioenergy is the pivotal issue at the intersection of these three factors. Millions still rely on bio-energy in the form of wood for basic energy services, often depleting forestry. The project’s premise is that bio-energy could provide increased energy access, in context of achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDG’s).
